Bansha Celtic V Clonmel Celtic

Bansha Celtic 1 Clonmel Celtic 5

Clonmel Celtic eased into the 4th round of the FAI Junior Cup with a comfortable 5-1 win away to Bansha Celtic last Sunday. It took Celtic a few minutes to settle but there was never any real doubt about the outcome of this tie. Paul Kennedy twice and Andy Cosgrave had both come close before Kennedy volleyed Celtic into the lead on 30 minutes from an exquisite Ross Doyle cross. Although the score was just 1-0 at the break Celtic took over completely in the second half. On 56 minutes Celtic made it two as an Andy Cosgrave header looped over the stranded keeper. Bansha, however responded immediately and although John Ryan got a hand to the striker's effort he couldn't keep it out. Fours minutes later Celtic restored their two goal lead and effectively tied the game up when Stephen Ryan broke through to and finished well to make it 3-1. If Celtic's first goal demonstrated individual brilliance their fourth was a classic team effort. From the right back position they worked the ball skilfully up the field and Stephen Ryan was at the end of an Andy Cosgrave centre to make it 4-1 win 8 minutes remaining. Four minutes later Wayne Murray found himself with lots of time in the Bansha box and he coolly placed his effort past the keeper to rap up a comfortable win for Celtic. This was an impressive display from a Celtic side, still minus two or three players, with some excellent defending, quality football and some clinical finishing.

Starman for Celtic: Stephen Ryan
