Clonmel Celtic V Bansha Celtic

Clonmel Celtic 3 Bansha Celtic 4

Clonmel Celtic 3 Bansha Celtic 4 Clonmel Celtic's league hopes were dealt a severe blow last Sunday when they went down to a surprise 4-3 defeat to relegation threatened Bansha Celtic. After losing their first game of the season last week Celtic were attempting to bounce back but they started this game far too sluggishly and found themselves a goal down when Anto Crowe netted for the visitors. When Johnny Cagney equalised for Celtic on 30 minutes you felt order was restored and Celtic would go on to claim all three points. However Celtic were rocked by two Barry Grogan free kicks that saw Bansha reach the break with a commanding 3-1 lead. As expected Celtic went chasing the game in the second half and dominated proceedings. You couldn't help but feel that if they had adapted this approach in the first half they would have been out of sight by half time. Despite laying siege to the Bansha goal Celtic couldn't break through. A combination of poor finishing, goal line clearances, last ditch tackling made it very exciting for the neutrals but maddeningly frustrating for the home supporters. Celtic pulled one back on 65 minutes when Brian Waters volleyed home beautifully from an Eric Keane centre. With 25 minutes left there was still time to win this game as Celtic continued to pile forward in droves. As time ticked on their play became more desperate as it suddenly seemed to become apparent that we might not win this one. Celtic were dealt a lifeline when Mike Phelan was upended in the box and a penalty was awarded. As Paul Kennedy stepped up to take the penalty the supporters were all looking at their watches to see if we still had time for a winner. Unfortunately Paul must have been thinking the same thing as he flashed his shot wide of the left post to a collective groan around the pitch. Bansha then made a rare break and although Emerson Kirby made a fine save Anto Crowe tapped in the rebound to claim what could prove to be three vital points for the visitors. In injury time Brian Waters bundled the ball over the line from a corner to leave the final score 4-3 to Bansha. With some important games coming up after Christmas Celtic will need to get back to winning ways. Hopefully the return of three or four key players from injury and suspension will help them to that.

Starman for Celtic: Brian Waters
