Clonmel Celtic advanced to the third round of the FAI Junior Cup with what turned out to be a dogged 2-1 away victory over Blackcastle United from North Tipperary. Not only had Celtic to battle against worthy opponents in Blackcastle, they also had the terrible playing conditions and a very dodgy referee to contend with. Celtic tried to play their way out of trouble in the first half, but eventually found that they were up against a very stubborn Blackcastle side. However Celtic put in a tremendous effort, in every department of the pitch, in the second half and this was repayed with two fine goals from the prolific Paddy "Wack" O'Donnell. Celtic's backline withheld some serious pressure throughout the entire match, but they stood firm without. Kenny O'Shea and David Peters were heroic throughout and they were well supported by Ian McCollum and Wayne Murray. Stephan Ryan put in a captains performance as he patrolled the midfield breaking up waves of attacks and distributing the ball well. The deadlock was broken midway through the second half when a great through ball by Graham Doyle put Paddy Wack through on goal, and he did brilliantly in beating two defenders before lifting the ball over the advancing keeper. The second goal soon followed when some great work down the right by the lively Darren Burns resulted in the ball breaking kindly to Paddy Wack, and he showed some great composure in beating the keeper for the second time. He is showing some great form this season, as he has a very impressive total of 11 goals in just 9 games. Blackcastle got a late consolation goal with minutes remaining, but Celtic held firm to record their forth win on the trot under the expert management of Willie Murphy. Celtic will now be in the draw for the third round, and with the attitude and performance shown of late, it will be a very good team that eventually stops Willie Murphys' impressive side.
