From the summit of the league a fortnight ago Celtic now find themselves joint bottom after this 1-0 defeat to Borris. This result was rough justice on Celtic who deserved at least a point from their endeavours. However despite dominating the second half Celtic simply did not create enough chances. If you don't create chances you don't score goals and if you don't score goals you don't win matches. Celtic best chances came in the first 15 minutes. Paddy O'Donnell saw his effort turned around the post by the Borris keeper on 4 minutes and on 13 minutes Jockie Landers, who impressed in midfield, played Adam McSherry in but he didn't get a clean strike on his shot which scraped the post. It was an even first half with Borris coming close on 24 minutes when Danny Graham's effort went narrowly wide. The all important goal came 4 minutes before half time when Martin Dermody steered home a cross to put Borris ahead at the break. Celtic had all the possession in the second half and played quite well at times. The return of Kenny O'Shea and the introduction of Ian McCollum seemed to have a positive effect on the defence which looked organised and solid throughout. In midfield Celtic passed Borris off he pitch and played some very neat football while up front Paddy O'Donnell and Adam McSherry were full of running. However despite two efforts from Paddy O'Donnell Celtic did not create enough chances. They lacked a cutting edge and a physical presence up front that would have caused more problems for the Borris defence. At the end of August its a pity to see our league challenge all but over but we need to start picking up points soon or we could be dragged into a relegation struggle. Hopefully the return of manager Karl Condon, who everyone at the club are happy to welcome back, will see a change in the team's fortunes beginning in Thurles next Sunday.
