Clonmel Celtic 3 Two Mile Borris 1

Clonmel Celtic collected a crucial three points with a well merited 3-1 win over Borris at Celtic Park last Sunday. This win gives Celtic a little breathing space though they will be aware they still have hard work ahead of them. Celtic, obviously aware of the importance of this game, got the perfect start and found themselves 2-0 up after 16 minutes. On 4 minutes Brian Waters rifled home to the top corner to give Celtic the lead. Ten minutes later the Borris keeper was unable to gather a Dessie Byrne cross and Andy Cosgrave was on hand to fire home Celtic’s second. Borris were then given a lifeline when Celtic conceeded a penalty which they missed to keep Celtic in the driving seat. Celtic continued to look the better side in the second half but then handed Borris a second lifeline when Johnny Cagney was red carded. Borris nearly took immediate advantage but Celtic keeper John Ryan, who was making a welcome return, produced a tremendous double save to protect Celtic’s two goal lead. Celtic then extended their advantage to three when Brian Waters scored from the spot. Borris did have the satisfaction of scoring the goal of the game when Brian Carroll volleyed home a fine effort with 10 minutes remaining but for Borris it was a case of too little too late
