Two Mile Borrise 0 Clonmel Celtic 1

A last gasp winner from Adam McSherry saw Clonmel Celtic collect 3 crucial points away to Borris last Sunday. This was a huge win for Celtic and after a very shaky start to the season they have now reached the relative safety of mid table. They still have a bit of work to do but based on the effort put into this performance there is no reason why they shouldn’t continue to climb the table. Realising the importance of the game Celtic started well keeping the ball on the ground in difficult windy conditions. In the first five minutes both Brian Waters and Ian Kavanagh had shots on goal. However despite their promising start they conceded a penalty on 6 minutes and were relieved when Martin Dermody missed the target from the spot kick. Celtic continued to have the better of the exchanges but just couldn’t find a breakthrough. On 35 minutes Wayne Kiely played Kenny O’Shea in but he blasted over. Five minutes later the Borris keeper denied Wayne Kiely with a fine save as the game reached the break scoreless. This was also a huge game for Borris in their battle to avoid the drop and they improved and came a lot more into the game in the second half. On 55 minutes John Ryan produced a fine block as Borris grew in confidence and began to push back a tiring Celtic. Although possession was shared in the second half Celtic continued to create the better chances and Andy Cosgrave was denied by a brilliant double save by the Borris keeper on 65 minutes. The trying conditions were beginning to have an effect on both teams but Celtic were finding the gaps and Brian Waters raced through and fired narrowly wide on 67 minutes. With 10 minutes remaining Celtic had their best chance when a slick pass from Adam McSherry played in Wayne Kiely and though his shot beat the advancing keeper it also beat the post. At this stage it looked as if Celtic would have to settle for a hard fought point until the 89th minute when Andy Cosgrave found Adam McSherry and he raced through and shot pass the Borris keeper to claim a crucial win for Celtic. .
