Clonmel Celtic continued their recovery last Sunday when they edged out Borris 1-0 in a tight encounter at Celtic Park. The game looked to be heading for a scoreless draw until up popped Paul Kennedy to score a dramatic winner. On 73 minutes Kennedy took control of a pass from Stephen Ryan and then sublimely chipped the keeper for an excellent finish that gave Celtic three valuable points. You could argue that it was rough justice for a Borris side that gave as good as they got throughout. Celtic came close on a couple of occasions in the first half with Mark Maguire unlucky not to open the scoring. On 20 minutes he beat the offside trap but the Borris keeper was very quickly off his line to block his effort. Ten minutes later he again found himself clear but this time he blasted over. Borris started the second half well and got on top for the first 20 minutes. Andy Ryan came to Celtic's rescue on 62 minutes when he cleared the ball off the line. As the second half progressed the game evened up again and as both defences looked very solid it took an exquisite finish from Paul Kennedy to separate the sides. Having gone in front Celtic could have added a second. Paul Kennedy saw his effort saved on 80 minutes. On 85 minutes Emmet Johnson, who at 16 became the youngest player to play for the juniors, broke through and shot narrowly over.
