After a few promising results and good performances of late hopes were high of a run in the Tipperary Cup this season. These hopes were dashed last Sunday as a very poor showing saw Celtic dumped out of the Cup by Old Bridge. Although Celtic were missing a few regulars and had to make changes it was silly defensive errors that had them on the backfoot at an early stage. On 25 minutes Emerson Kirby left a corner slip through his hands and Eoin Leahy nodded home from close range. Five minutes later Wayne Murray was caught in possession and after good work by Emmet Ryan found Paul Ryan fired home to put the Bridge 2-0 up. Celtic had a couple of efforts either side of half time when Ian McCollum tested the keeper and Andy Cosgrave forced an unorthodox save from the Bridge custodian on 50 minutes. Bridge sealed the game on 60 minutes when Paul Ryan broke through and rounded the keeper to make it 3-0. When Eoin Leahy coolly added a fourth two minutes later Celtic were facing a route. At this stage Celtic supporters were leaving, frustration etched on their faces. They missed a mini revival with David Peters firing home a cracking free kick to score what appeared a consolation. When Paul Kennedy added a second there was a glimmer of hope. When Celtic were then awarded a penalty it looked as if the game was alive again but unfortunately Eddie Doyle failed to convert and an amazing comeback was thwarted. There was a bit of good news for Celtic later in the day as their Premier status was guaranteed for next season with Clonmel Town's victory over St Nicholas.
