Clonmel Celtic climbed to second in the table with a well earned 2-1 win over neighbours Old Bridge at Celtic Park last Wednesday night. Things didn't look too good early on for Celtic as after already been deprived of Danny Madigan, they then lost Graham Doyle through injury. A minute later Paddy O'Donnell almost made things worse for Celtic but his effort was well saved by John Ryan. With Johnny Cagney now pulling the strings in midfield Celtic came more into the game and began to get on top. They took the lead on 35 minutes with a beautifully crafted goal. Brain Waters played a ball into the box which expertly laid off by Stephen Ryan to his strike partner Paul Kennedy who applied the clinical finish to put Celtic in front. Celtic enjoyed their best period of the game and nearly went in two up but for Brian Waters effort being cleared off the line. Celtic continued to dominate the early stages of the second half and got the all important second on 60 minutes when Kennedy and Ryan combined again. This time, after a defensive error, Stephen Ryan burst clear but when his effort was blocked he regained possession and squared the ball to Paul Kennedy who fired home to put Celtic 2-0. You would expect Bridge to come back into the game but you would be concerned the way Celtic seemed to lose the plot in the last 20 as their play became very panicky and ragged. From being well in control they were suddenly on the backfoot and under pressure. Emmet Ryan reduced the deficit from the spot with five minutes remaining but despite some late pressure Celtic held out for what turned out to be a hard fought but well deserved win.
