Old Bridge 2 Clonmel Celtic 3

After two successive defeats Clonmel Celtic got back to winning ways with a very important win away to neighbours Old Bridge last Sunday morning. Games between Celtic and the Bridge have been very close affairs in recent years and this clash was to prove no different with the outcome in the balance right up to the final minute. Andy Cosgrave forced a save from Bridge keeper Raymond Boyle after 5 minutes and Paul Kennedy also came close 5 minutes later. On 21 minutes a Brian Carroll cross found Eddie Doyle but he shot wide. Old Bridge came closest to scoring midway through the first half when a ball over the top caught the Celtic defence out but the home side were unable to capitalise. However they did hit the front on 40 minutes when from a Bridge goal kick there was a mix up in the Celtic defence and the ball crawled over the line to make it 1-0 to the Bridge. They failed to hold the lead for long though as an Andy Cosgrave pass found Paul Kennedy and he slipped the ball through to Paul Shanahan who netted his first goal for Celtic. The game flowed from end to end in the second half with Eddie Doyle and Paul Kennedy coming close for Celtic. Old Bridge were also creating chances with Kieran Kendrick getting down low to make a fine save on 65 minutes and a Bridge striker should have troubled the keeper with a header a few minutes later. Celtic hit the front on 72 minutes when great work down the left by Glen Nugent saw his cross converted by Eddie Doyle at the far post. Four minutes later Bridge were level when Noel O'Brien got on the end of a Bridge centre to give the keeper no chance. Just when it looked as if the game was going to end all square Glen Nugent created space in the box with ten minutes remaining and he fired a fine shot into the net to give Celtic a welcome three points. I don't think anyone would have denied Bridge a point for their efforts as the game could just have easily finished 3-2 in their favour.
