For the second successive season Clonmel Celtic have lost on penalties to a team from North Tipperary in the first round of the FAI Junior Cup. Having won 4 games in a row against North Tipp teams the last two results indicates the team's demise over the last couple of seasons. This result together with last week's exit from the Munster Junior means that in all likelihood team's only remaining objective this season must be survival. Celtic got off to the worst possible start last Sunday and found themselves 1-0 down after only a minute. Things were to get worse and 15 minutes later they found themselves 2-0 down. In fairness to Celtic they kept battling and Eddie Doyle threw them a lifeline when he scored just before the break to leave the score 2-1 at half time. Early in the second half Stephen Ryan set up Paul Kennedy to level the game at 2-2. However Cloughjordan were also proving to be resilient battlers and with 15 minutes remaining they edged in front again. With time running out Eddie Doyle equalised from the spot after Jamie Kelly was fouled in the box. Extra time failed to produce any more goals and all but one of the penalties in the shoot out were converted to see Cloughjordan advance 5-4.
