Clonmel Celtic are out of the FAI Junior Cup after losing on penalties to North Tipp side Cormackstown Rovers in Ferryhouse last Sunday. Extra time failed to produce a goal in this game so the lottery of penalties had to decide the tie with Rovers winning the shootout 3-1. After a scoreless first half Celtic knew they had a battle on their hands as Cormackstown gave as good as they got in the first period. Celtic keeper Raymie Boyle had to be sharp on one occasion to deny the North Tipp side an interval lead. Celtic got on top in the second half and had most of the possession but just did not carry enough of a threat. To be honest their movement was lacklustre and static at times, they didn't pass the ball as well as they usually do and the final ball into the box was not up to standard. They did come close on a few occasions. In the 67th minutes a fine James Power volley was saved by the keeper. Tommy Kiely almost sneaked it at the end but his flick from an Eddie Doyle cross was inches away. For all their possession Celtic just could not find a way past a well organised Cormackstown side who defended in numbers. Celtic would have fancied themselves to advance to the fourth round and will be disappointed with their exit but you must give credit to Cormackstown. They came with a game plan, stuck to it and just did enough to advance.
