Clonmel Celtic 3 Galbally United 1

Following last week's dreadful start and the explosive aftermath Celtic got a morale boosting win against newly promoted Galbally Utd at Celtic Park last Sunday. Its really hard to fathom how one negative result, against the reigning champions, has had such huge repercussions and this is something the club will review when the dust has settled. Anyway after one of the most traumatic week's in Celtic's short history it was nice to get back to football. This was a game Celtic needed to win and they started the game tentatively although they did come close on 10 minutes when David Joyce headed narrowly wide. This effort seemed to add impetus to Celtic's play as within two minutes both Paddy O'Donnell and Andy Cosgrave came close again.  Galbally had their first effort on goal on 17 minutes but Jonathan O'Mahoney saved well. Then following a delightful move involving Andy Cosgrave and Paddy O'Donnell, Celtic came close again only for the keeper to save well from O'Donnell's effort. Galbally started the second half brightly and on three occasions came close to taking the lead. While a goal for Celtic would have really boosted their confidence, you felt the concession of a goal could have been fatal to a team already low on confidence. Celtic got the all important breakthrough on 65 minutes when a free from the excellent Paddy O'Donnell was guided home at the far post by Ian McCollum. The goal transformed Celtic as they now began to produce some fine free flowing football and took control of the game. In midfield David Joyce grew more influential and on 70 minutes he was on the end of a fine cross from the industrious Andy Cosgrave to blast home the insurance goal for Celtic. All that was left was for the superb Paddy O'Donnell to cap a brilliant display and he duly obliged from the penalty spot after he was taken down after an amazing solo run into the Galbally box on 85 minutes. Quin Perry converted a late consolation for Galbally but it didn't really take the gloss of an important win for Celtic. This will not go down as one of Celtic's more memorable wins but credit to everyone for a battling performance. In a very tense and difficult time they pulled up their sleeves and fought hard displaying great character.
