Clonmel Celtic 5 Gooldscross 1

Clonmel Celtic put their recent turmoil behind them with a comfortable 5-1 win over Gooldscross in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup last Sunday. John Mullins settled Celtic’s nerves with an early strike but an error allowed Richie Hennessy in for an immediate equaliser for the first division side. Midway through the first half Celtic regained the lead with a Wayne Kiely effort and Celtic lead 2-1 at the break. Wayne Murray powered home a header to put Celtic into a commanding lead early in the second half. Gooldscross did create a few chances and a goal at this stage could have made this game very interesting but poor finishing let them down. On 70 minutes Wayne Kiely scored the goal of the game when he beautifully controlled a long pass and with the deftest of touches he coolly lobbed the keeper for an exquisite finish to make it 4-1 to Celtic. With 8 minutes remaining Wayne Kiely was again played through and once again he showed superb ball control to take the ball past the Gooldscross keeper to complete his hat trick and a rather flattering 5-1 win for Celtic.
