Clonmel Celtic slipped further into relegation trouble after going down 2-0 away to Killusty last Sunday. This was a very harsh result on a Celtic side who played the better football and created more opportunities on the day. However two defensive lapses in concentration late in the day proved crucial. The first thirty minutes of the game was end to end stuff but the only real noteworthy incident was the retirement of Stephen Ryan through injury. His replacement James Power, was very unlucky not to give Celtic a lead as Celtic eventually got the upper hand and should have been in front at the break. On 30 minutes excellent play from Barry O'Neill on the right saw him play in Paddy O'Donnell and his pinpoint cross was headed over by James Power when he should have scored. Minutes later Graham Doyle and Barry O'Neill combined to send James Power through again but he failed to squeeze home his effort. On 39 minutes Power did well to get on the end of a Graham Doyle cross but his header went just wide. Celtic were well on top at this stage and on 42 minutes Paddy O'Donnell failed to get enough power on his volley to trouble the keeper. At the other end, just on half time, Raymie Boyle had to get down well to make a fine save after a Killusty player broke through. Celtic did not create as many chances in the second half but they were still well in the game with Graham Doyle and Kevin Kennedy outstanding in midfield. However they were dealt a sucker blow on 65 minutes. Raymie Boyle who was comfortably collecting crosses all day dropped one and was immediately punished as the Killusty striker took advantage to give the home side the lead. Celtic tried to get back in the game immediately with Kevin Kennedy shooting over and then James Power was denied by a brilliant save from the Killusty keeper. David Peters almost equalised with minutes remaining with a thunderous drive that was inches wide with the keeper beaten. Then to add salt in the wound a defensive mix up between Ian McCallum and Ramie Boyle saw McCallum's headed back pass go over the advancing Boyle to make the points safe for Killusty.
