Clonmel Celtic V St Michaels

Clonmel Celtic 1 St Michaels 4

There was no repeat of last year's heroic performance against St Michaels, as an out of sorts Clonmel Celtic easily slumped to a 4-1 defeat against the current Munster champions. It was evident from the first few moments that this was going to be a tough encounter for Celtic as a classy St Michaels set about their task with meaningful purpose. In Aaron Moroney they had a striker who would be a constant menace for Celtic throughout the ninety minutes. Despite struggling to get into the game Celtic, though Robbie Farrell had a couple of efforts off target in the first twenty minutes. St Michaels took the lead on 30 minutes when a defensive mix up left Celtic keeper Raymie Boyle stranded and Aaron Moroney cleverly chipped home to give Michaels the lead. Celtic had their best chance on 35 minutes when from a Eddie Doyle cross the Michaels keeper saved at the feet of Robbie Farrell. However on 37 minutes Aaron Moroney put Michaels firmly in control with a superb half volley from the edge of the box which put St Michaels 2-0 up at the break. On 48 minutes Celtic were given hope when the Michaels's keeper couldn't hold Graham Doyle's shot and John Mullins tapped home the rebound. However the goal only spurred St Michaels into action and they tightened their grip on the game. Raymie Boyle kept Celtic in the game with two fine saves from Davy Ryan. On 66 minutes St Michaels got the all important third goal when Brendan Cronin curled the ball home direct form a corner. St Michaels wrapped the game up on 73 minutes when Davy Ryan fired home form close range when Celtic failed to clear a corner. St Michaels were always in control throughout this game and at times ran Celtic ragged. Celtic, despite their gallant efforts. looked very disjointed and can only get better. In truth St Michaels could have scored more both for some fine saves from Raymie Boyle and two questionable second half goal line clearances which the referee ruled in Celtic's favour.
