Clonmel Celtic 2 St. Michaels 4

For the first time this season Clonmel Celtic came close to fielding a full strength team but it wasn't enough to save them from a 4-2 defeat in an exciting encounter with St Michaels last Sunday. In truth Celtic will be disappointed as they deserved to get something from this game for their effort and the amount of chances they created. In a decent first half chances created were split between the sides. Davy Ryan forced a good save from Kieran Kendrick on 13 minutes while at the other end Paddy O'Donnell forced a finger tip save from the Michaels keeper on 20 minutes. St Michaels were finding gaps in the Celtic defence and Mark Roche should have done better when he broke through but shot wide. However Celtic didn't heed the warnings and paid the price on 34 minutes when Mark Roche again broke through and this time he made no mistake. Celtic finished the half strongly with Paul Kennedy, David Joyce and Eddie Doyle all coming close. Celtic started the second half well with Eddie Doyle again coming close. However on 50 minutes, somewhat against the run of play, St Michaels went two up with a wonder strike from Shane McGrath. Celtic refused to let this set back derail them and they got on top again and were rewarded when Paul Kennedy lobbed the advancing keeper to get one back on 54 minutes. A minute later Celtic were level when Paul Kennedy collected a Paddy O'Donnell cross and he turned sharply to score his 50th goal for Celtic and the equaliser. Celtic were well on top now and had Michaels under the cosh. They should have hit the front on 59 minutes but Paul Shanahan blasted over from six yards. The same player then forced a save from the Michaels keeper and John Walsh then somehow blocked a goalbound Paul Kennedy shot. Michaels weathered the storm and gradually got back into the game. On 64 minutes they retook the lead when Jimmy Carr got on the end of a cross to head Michaels back in front. Celtic still had plenty of time to get back into the game but once again, as in previous games, they pressed the self destruct button when they conceeded a soft goal on 75 minutes with Sean O'Halloran on the mark for Michaels. The goal effectively killed off Celtic's game challenge. From the evidence of this game Celtic look the complete articulate going foward and are creating plenty of chances but they must drastically reduced the errors and they seem to be getting severly punished for every mistake they are making at the moment.
