Clonmel Celtic got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over third division Mullinahone which sees them advance to the 2nd round of the Tipperary Cup. A goal in each half was enough for Celtic but they had to battle all the way against a Mullinahone side who can be proud of their efforts and probably disappointed that their endeavours did not yield a better result for them. Celtic took the lead on 15 minutes when good work down the left involving Wayne Murray and Ross Doyle ended with Paul Kennedy turning sharply in the box and firing home his 20th of the season. Mullinahone came straight back at Celtic forcing more corners in the first half and Celtic keeper Emerson Kirby twice kept Celtic's lead in tact with smart saves. The second half saw much of the same with Celtic struggling to put Mullinahone away and the third division side still had plenty of the ball and created one great opportunity that they failed to convert. Stephen Ryan eventually got the insurance goal with 15 minutes remaining that put Celtic through. Celtic's victory came at a cost though. Paul Kennedy's red card in the 2nd half means he will probably miss next Sunday's FAI Junior Cup tie against Grattan Utd and with Paddy O'Donnell cup tied, Celtic could be short on fire power. We would also like to thank Clonmel Town for the use of a set of jerseys last Sunday.
