Clonmel Celtic V St. Nicholas

Clonmel Celtic 2 St. Nicholas 0

It will take a very unusual and unfortunate run of results to see Celtic relegated now after this 2-0 victory over St Nicholas at Celtic Park last Sunday. Celtic were full value for this win which sees them rise to joint third in the Premier table. This game eventually sprang to life in the 35th minute as what we witnessed prior to that was largely forgettable with neither keeper forced into action. Just before the break Celtic finally began to get the upperhand as a Wayne Gartland header from a Ross Doyle cross forced a fine save from the keeper. Minutes later Gartland again worked an opening which the keeper did well to block. Celtic started the second half as they finished the first as they continued to dominate and were finally wearing down the Nicholas defence. On 47 minutes Ross Doyle probably should have done better when well positioned but his shot was well over. Ten minutes later his fellow striker Paul Kennedy had an effort that was narrowly wide. On 63 minutes Kenny O'Shea worked a one two with Paul Kennedy but on his weaker foot he failed to trouble the St Nicholas keeper. Celtic finally got the breakthrough they deserved on 65 minutes when a ball into the box caused confusion and with St Nicholas unable to clear Wayne Gartland took control of the ball and shot low into the corner of the net. A minute later Celtic were nearly two up when Ross Doyle showed some neat control but his shot hit the post and was cleared to safety. Celtic did however wrap up the game on 75 minutes with a fine goal by Stephen Ryan. He took control of the ball with his back to goal but turned and hooked a fine effort past the keeper. St Nicholas tried to rally in the last fifteen minutes but for the second successive week the Celtic defence could not be breached. Celtic look very strong and well organised in defence now, which happens to coincide with the return of Kenny O'Shea, they have a very solid and hardworking midfield while up front the chances came a plenty last Sunday.

Starman for Celtic: Kenny O'Shea
