Clonmel Celtic picked up their first win of the season when they eventually got the better of Peake Villa on a 4-2 scoreline. Celtic twice had to come from behind against the Thurles side who's form, like Celtic's, had been poor going into this game. Villa, however, got off to the perfect start when Celtic once again failed to deal with a cross and Cathal Delahunty fired home at the far post. With so much at stake there was an edginess in both sides' play and the ensuing play was scrappy without much goalmouth action. Celtic pulled level on 25 minutes after good work by Ian McCallum and Mark Maguire saw the latter's cross tapped home by Paul Kennedy. Villa almost immediately regained the lead when Cathal Delahunty broke through but Martin Boland in the Celtic goal pulled off a fine save. On 30 minutes Eddie Doyle worked a good position but his shot was comfortably saved by the Villa keeper. In injury time in the first half Villa struck again. Martin Boland blocked an initial effort but Gavin Morrissey fired the rebound low into the corner to put Villa 2-1 up. Celtic needed to start the second half well and they did just that as they were level on 50 minutes. Great work out on the right by Robbie Farrell saw his cross turned in at the far post by Mark Maguire to tie the game at 2-2. On the hour mark Martin Boland again pulled off a fine save to keep Celtic level. Celtic took the lead on 73 minutes after Mark Maguire was upended in the box. Eddie Doyle coolly slotted home to give Celtic a 3-2 lead. They wrapped it up on 82 minutes when Mark Maguire raced on from a Stephen Ryan knock on to fire past a hesitant Villa keeper to seal a welcome win for Celtic.
