Clonmel Celtic maintained their unbeaten start to the season but they had to settle for 1 point against Peake Villa at Celtic Park last Sunday. The two week break from league action seemed to have a negative effect on Celtic as this was arguably their poorest display of the season and they can count themselves slightly fortunate to have grabbed a draw. Both sides had made decent starts to the season and this had the potential to be a cracking encounter but unfortunately what emerged was a fairly drab affair with little goalmouth action. On 14 minutes Celtic had their first chance when Paul Kennedy broke through but the Villa keeper was quick off his line to smother his effort. On 21 minutes Villa had their first real opportunity and would have taken the lead but for a superb save from John Ryan who got down low to turn away a Ted O'Connor header. Celtic nearly went in front on the stroke of half time but Paul Kennedy delayed too long in the penalty box and the chance went. A minute into the second half a fine move involving Stephen Ryan and Andy Cosgrave ended with Eddie Doyle flashing a shot inches wide. However on 47 minutes Villa went in front when Ted O'Connor beat Celtic keeper John Ryan to a free kick and nodded home. Villa didn't look in too much danger of losing this lead as they shaded much of the second half. But an out of sorts Celtic got a break with 8 minutes remaining when Andy Cosgrave fired low into the corner of the net to nick a point. They always say it is a good sign of a team that pick up points when not playing well but Celtic will need to put in a more spirited and fighting display against Cahir next week to get back on track.
