Peake Villa 2 Clonmel Celtic 1

Whereas last week they got away with it, on Sunday Clonmel Celtic were made to pay for a host of missed chances as they went down to a late winner to Peake Villa in Thurles. There was nothing between these sides when they met recently in the cup and so it was to prove again although Celtic will never comprehend why they didn’t take something from this game. Villa had more of the ball in the first half although stand in Celtic keeper Jockie Landers didn’t have a save to make in the first period. On 40 minutes Celtic hit the front when a 30 yard effort from Wayne Kiely somehow beat the Villa keeper. However Villa were level minutes later when Sam Walsh was on the end of a cross to tie up the game 1-1 at the break. Celtic took control in the second half but missed countless opportunities with Paddy O’Donnell and Ian McCollum coming very close for the visitors. Just when it looked as if they would have to make do with just one point for their efforts disaster struck for Celtic when from their own corner Villa broke and scored a winner that keeps them top of the table.
