Clonmel Celtic 1 Peake Villa 2

Clonmel Celtic slipped to their second successive league defeat when they were edged out on a 2-1 scoreline by a hardworking Peake Villa outfit at Celtic Park last Wednesday night. The Thurles outfit started the game brightly and but for timely interceptions by Christy Alyward and Kevin McGrath they could have tested the Celtic keeper early on. However slightly against the run of play Celtic hit the front on 23 minutes. David Joyce shot from the edge of the box hit the post but Slovakian Frantiez Holecko tapped home the rebound to score his debut goal for Celtic. Just like their previous game against Town Celtic were unable to hold their lead and within a minute Villa were level when David Maher got between two defenders to head home a cross. Nine minutes later Villa were in front and again like the Town game Celtic were punished for poor defending from a set piece. From a corner Michael Fogarty was given too much space at the far post to head home.On 39 minutes Celtic nearly levelled when Ian McCollum headed just over from a corner and Villa reached half time with a deserved lead. The quality of play in the second half dropped noticeably and for some strange reason Peake Villa were unable to reproduce their first half efforts and could easily have paid the price for a game they seemed to be in control of in the first half. On 74 minutes Andy Cosgrave just headed over from a Glen Nugent shot as Celtic pressed for an equaliser. At the other end Villa had strong claims for a penalty when a Celtic defender seemed to have mistimed his tackle. Celtic nearly had a late equaliser when the impressive Glen Nugent went on a fine run and his cross caused a scramble in the Villa box with the ball eventually been cleared off the line and Villa held on the the points.
