Clonmel Celtic blew a two goal lead at half time to eventually lose out 3-2 to a very dogged Rock Rovers side. After some great build up play from Stephan Ryan and Edmund "Eggy" Doyle, Graham "Jiggy"Doyle put the ball into the back of the net with a very stylish finish. Celtic dominated the first half and they were rewarded when a great through ball by Ian McCullum put James Power through and he rounded the keeper with some ease to put Celtic 2 up. Celtic thought the match was dead and buried at half time but Rock Rovers came out with a lot of fight and determination to come out winners. They scored early in the first half, and then when Rock were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, Kenny O'Shea was sent off in an off the ball incident. Rock scored from the resulting free kick to leave it 2-2. Celtic showed signs of a fight back through Stephan Ryan and in particular Graham Doyle but a few good chances went to waste. Rock then caught Celtic on the counter attack and Kevin Kennedy brought down one of their players in the box for a clear cut penalty. This was converted and the final wistle blew to mark the first defeat under new manager Willie Murphy.
