Clonmel Celtic 3 Rock Rovers 3

Clonmel Celtic had to settle for a point last Sunday despite holding a 2-0 half time lead against Rock Rovers. In fairness Celtic were probably the more relieved team when the final whistle blew as they had to endure a strong second half fight back from the Carrick side. This scenario looked very unlikely in the first half after Celtic had scored twice and missed plenty of chances to have this game wrapped up at the break. Celtic took the lead on 10 minutes when a Eddie Doyle header from a corner took a slight deflection to beat the Rovers keeper. Eddie Doyle then missed a great chance to score his second as Celtic continued to take the game to Rovers. On 40 minutes Celtic went two up when Adam McSherry finished after been set up by Eddie Doyle. Rovers started the second half well and were back in it on 49 minutes when Alan Ryan headed home a cross. The goal spurred the Carrick side into life and they soon began to get on top despite Johnny Cagney testing the Carrick keeper with a long range effort. On 60 minutes Rovers were level when Jamie Waters fired home a fine free kick off the underside of the bar. Minutes later Johnny Butler kept Celtic level with a fine save. Slightly against the run of play Celtic hit the front again on 72 minutes when Adam McSherry curled home an excellent free kick. However once again Celtic couldn't hold onto the lead and 2 minutes later Alan Ryan drilled home a free kick to leave the score 3-3. Rovers probably had the better of the latter stages but couldn't find a winner and both sides had to settle for a point.
