Clonmel Celtic continued their improvement under new manager, Willie Murphy, with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Rosegreen Rangers at a wind and rain swept Ferryhouse last Sunday. If anything the inclement conditions seemed to suit Celtic as the wet conditions ensured a game played at a fast pace with complimented Celtic's style of play. Both Paddy O'Donnell and Graham Doyle came close in the early stages before Adam McSherry broke the deadlock on 25 minutes from a free kick. Ten minutes later Celtic were 2-0 up when Paddy O'Donnell broke in from the right to score a fine solo effort. The second half wasn't long in progress when James Power capitalised on an under hit backpass to take possession, round the keeper and roll the ball home to make it 3-0. Midway through the second half Adam McSherry and Graham Doyle combined well on the left and McSherry's cross was steered home by Paddy O'Donnell. O'Donnell completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining when he fired home a Graham Doyle cross and the same player was on hand to tap home his fourth of the game in the last minute to make it 6-0 to Celtic. This was Celtic's best display of the season, reminiscent of the team at their best last season. They played the game at a good pace, their passing was accurate and the movement off the ball was excellent. Encouragingly Celtic kept a clean sheet with a solid defensive display and showed their dept of strength in the squad when Danny Madigan, Willie Maunsell and Jockie Landers all impressed when introduced in the second half. With long term absentees Eddie Doyle, Kevin Kennedy and John Mullins all not too far off a return things are looking a little rosier for the team. However I'm sure Willie Murphy will keep the team focussed because we are still only mid table having, at this stage, lost as many games as we have won. Fortunately we do seem to be hitting a bit of form as we take a break from league action next Sunday when we take on Newtown Celtic (North Tipperary) in Round 1 of the FAI Junior Cup.
