Rosegreen Rangers 2 Clonmel Celtic 6

Clonmel Celtic’s topsy turvy season continued as they eventually overcame the challenge of Rosegreen Rangers in the rain and muck to run out comfortable 6-2 winners. It continues to be a case of win one lose one for Celtic who move up 4th thanks to this important win. Celtic started well and Kenny O’Shea nearly put them ahead in the first minute. On 10 minutes the Rangers keeper made a good save from a Graham Doyle free but Celtic took the lead from the corner that followed. The keeper did well to block Paul Kennedy’s header but David Joyce was on hand to stab home the rebound. Rosegreen settled and came more into the game although Johnny Cagney and Graham Doyle came close with long range efforts before Rangers equalised on 36 minutes. However Celtic were back in front 2 minutes later when Paul Kennedy headed home a Graham Doyle centre. With the worsening weather conditions the game deteriorated as a spectacle in the second half and became a scrappy affair. Graham Doyle came close with a free for Celtic that hit the bar on 69 minutes but a minute later he found the target from another free to put Celtic 3-1 up. However on 72 minutes Rangers were back in it when they scored from a set piece to make it 3-2. Celtic restored their 2 goal advantage and made the game safe when Kenny O’Shea showed composure in the box to slide home Celtic’s fourth. On 85 minutes Kenny O’Shea and Graham Doyle linked up to set up Paul Kennedy for his second and in the last minute Kenny O’Shea glanced home Paul Kenney’s cross to score a sixth that in truth was a bit harsh on Rosegreen.
