Rosegreen Rangers V Clonmel Celtic

Rosegreen Rangers 2 Clonmel Celtic 4

Clonmel Celtic boosted their survival chances with a crucial 4-2 win away to Rosegreen last Sunday. This may not have been Celtic's best performance of the season but at this stage it is the points that matter. Celtic looked unsure and nervous during the opening minutes and it took them some time to settle. Indeed they should have been one down after 10 minutes when David Brabston broke through but Raymie Boyle pulled off a fine save and then Brabston struck the rebound against the bar. Celtic gradually forced their way into the game and on 15 minutes James Power had an effort that was narrowly wide. On 30 minutes a great move down the right involving Danny Madigan and Eddie Doyle resulted in Graham Doyle having a shot that was inches wide. On 32 minutes Celtic had claims for a penalty waved away when it appeared John Mullins was upended in the area and 2 minutes later James Power was again close when he shot wide from a Paddy O'Donnell flick on. However the goal Celtic was threatening eventually arrived on 44 minutes when John Mullins was on the end of a Stephen Ryan header to bundle the ball home. With the conditions favourable in the second half ,and the comfort of a lead, one would have expected Celtic to go on and take control of this game but incredibly they found themselves 2-1 down after 58 minutes. First a needlessly given away free kick saw Rosegreen head an equaliser on 46 minutes and 10 minutes later David Brabston took advantage of poor defending to shoot Rosegreen into the lead. Things were looking bleak for Celtic but in fairness to them, with their Premier status on the line, they rolled up their sleeves and battled gallantly for the last 30 minutes. On 63 minutes they were handed a lifeline when a Rosegreen player handled and James Power expertly dispatched the penalty to equalise for Celtic. A minute later however David Peters came to the rescue at the other end when a last ditch header denied Rosegreen. Celtic upped the pace and began to take control and on 73 minutes James Power was unlucky as he had a shot cleared off the line. A minute later Celtic were in front. John Mullins headed on a Danny Madigan ball and Stephen Ryan took control, turned his marker and fired Celtic into a 3-2 lead. Four minutes later the game was safe when James Power got on the end of a Paddy O'Donnell ball to nod in his second and seal a crucial 4-2 win for Celtic. This was a battling performance by Celtic with Raymie Boyle solid in goal, Stephen Ryan dominant in midfield and James Power having one of his best games in a Celtic shirt. However other results on Sunday mean Celtic will have to do it all again on Thursday at home to Peake Villa where a win should guarantee our safety. Please get out in numbers and support the lads for their most important game in their short history.
