Clonmel Celtic kepp their Tipperary Cup hopes alive with a hard fought win over a very dogged Sarsfield Rovers side. Due to the pitches condition, and the strong wind, this was never going to be a great spectacle. The opening exchanges were very scrappy and the chances were far and few between. Celtic however took de lead on 30 minutes when Paul Kennedy scored what was a certain contender for the goal of the season, as he scored a magnificent overhead kick from a Brian Waters ball into the box. As the second half began with Sarsfield Rovers coming out with the expected comeback but failed to create any clear cut chances. The Celtic defence were brilliant throughout, and after soaking up a lot of pressure they killed off any fight back that Sarsfield were thinking of staging. Stephen Ryan was guilty of missing a guilt edged chance as he somehow failed to hit the back of the net from all of 4 yards. As the match was approaching its end Celtic and Kennedy claimed their second goal. Danny Madigan and Eggy Doyle combined well down the right flank, with the latter’s ball headed expertly past the Sarsfield’s keeper. This was a very deserved result for Celtic as they outclassed their opponents in all areas of the pitch and they now await the draw which will see them face in the quarter final.
