Clonmel Celtic V Clonmel Town

Clonmel Celtic 0 Clonmel Town 5

Lets hope the supporters and players of Clonmel Celtic do not have to experience a first half performance like last Sunday's for a long long time. In recent years it is fair to say that we appear to have closed the gap a little on St Michaels and Clonmel Town. However last Sunday the gap seemed bigger than ever. Four nil down at half time, the game was effectively over. Town are a decent side but the half time score was misleading. Town were good but the goals Celtic gave away were shockingly awful. At least two positions need to be sorted urgently, and it does not take too much thinking to figure those out. Maybe last Sunday will be a watershed, we can surely never be as poor again. As for the goals, it is too painful to describe them in detail. Dwaine Burns and Paul Scully had Town 2-0 up after 15 minutes and it was a struggle from there on in. On 34 minutes even Raymie Condon must have been surprised a cross reached him at the far post and he headed home to make it 3-0. Even Town's best goal, a fine finish from Alan Coady on 37 minutes, originated from Celtic giving the ball away cheaply in midfield. 4-0 down at the break and you were fearful what may happen in the second half. However a combination of Town easing up a little and a spirited effort from Celtic meant that things didn't get too much worse. Indeed the fighting never say die attitude of players like Stephen Ryan, David Peters and Paddy O'Donnell lifted the spirits of the vanquished just that little bit. It emphasised the fact that we have a decent squad of players, we just need to solidify the basic foundation. It is also worth mentioning that three Celtic players who would have started last Sunday were sidelined with injury. Worryingly though, these players could be out for a while. Back to the second half, on 75 minutes Darren Burns headed the fifth, how the ball reached him I still can't figure out. Still plenty of time to get things right but a trip to Killusty next Sunday will prove a tough test.

Starman for Celtic: Stephan Ryan
