Clonmel Celtic lost out to a highly fancied Town team by the slightest of margins on Sunday. After taking an early lead Celtic failed to convert any of the chances they had to extend their lead, which eventually led to their downfall. Celtic started the game by far the better team and they deserved to take the lead when Kenny O'Shea's quick freekick found Wayne Gartland who delivered a perfectly weighted cross which fell to Paul Kennedy who coolily headed into the Town net. Town seemed to be shocked by this and looked extremely unsettled as they went into half time a goal down. As the two teams took to the pitch for the second half, the expected onslaught from Town never came. It was Celtic who looked the more likely winners. Wayne Gartland had an effort from outside the box tipped around the post, and the impressive Andrew Cosgrave rattled the Town bar on two seperate occaisions with fierce drives from all of 25 yards. On another day both would have probably gone in, but it just wasn't to be for Celtic. Town came back as expected with 25 minutes to go and pulled level when a mix up from a corner resulted in Alan Coady bundling the ball past Emerson Kirby in the Celtic goal. With 10 minutes to go Town got the winner when a ball into the box was only half cleared by the Celtic defence and Dwane Burns was quickest to react to steer the ball into the Celtic net. Although Celtic had the ball in the net on two seperate occaisions in the second half, both goals were disallowed as Kevin Kennedy was harshly ruled offside and Paul Kennedy was adjudged to have handled the ball before he chipped over the Town keeper. Although Celtic lost the game they can take great credit for their attitude and commitment and lets hope they can take this kind of form into the Tipperary Cup game against the Old Bridge next weekend.
