Clonmel Celtic got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 over Vee Rovers in the second round of the Munster Junior Cup. Celtic nearly got of to the perfect start after 8 minutes when Darren Burns was upended in the box but Paddy O'Donnell saw his penalty saved. Celtic, without being anyway spectacular, were on top for much of the first half and got the all important breakthrough on 31 minutes. Vee Rovers failed to properly defend a teasing Graham Doyle free kick and just as David Peters was bringing the ball under control Darren Burns fired home his first of the season. Once in the lead Celtic grew in confidence and should have been further in front at the break. On 44 minutes Paddy O'Donnell broke through but his effort was just wide. On half time Darren Burns had a glorious chance to score his second but he chipped over with the goal gaping. Celtic continued their workman like performance in the second half and got the all important second on 59 minutes. Once again an excellent free kick from Graham Doyle was poorly defended by Rovers and Stephen Ryan fired home to put Celtic 2-0 up. With victory now assured Celtic began to play a bit and could have added a couple of more goals late on. Paddy O'Donnell ,who by his own standards is having a bit of a lean spell in front of goal, had a diving header saved and Graham Doyle shot narrowly wide after an excellent run by Kevin Kennedy. Vee battled gamely throughout but Raymie Boyle had a very quiet game in the Celtic goal. This was an important game to win as it could have been a banana skin but Celtic will by no means get carried away by this result. There is still a lot of work to be done and further room for improvement before we can confidently say our season is back on track.
