Clonmel Celtic advanced to the third round of the Munster Cup with a comprehensive victory against a dogged Vee Rovers side. Celtic showed who were the Premier Division side in this game with a very controlled and composed performance. Celtic passed the ball around with ease and never looked like losing this game. Celtic got off the mark when Paul Kennedy capitalised on an error by the Vee Rovers keeper to slot into an empty net. Kennedy's and Celtic's second followed soon after after a great ball into the box was expertly converted by the in form Kennedy at the back post. However Vee rovers pulled a goal back when some sloppy defending from Celtic led to Rovers pulling a goal back before half time. Celtic cam out in the second half, and whatever nerves there might be were soon erased when Paul Kennedy taped in for his hat-trick after a header by Stephen Ryan was stopped on the line. With 10 minutes to go Rovers pulled another goal back after a host of chances were missed by Celtic. Impressive youth player Emmet Johnson made sure there wasn't to be a grandstand finish to this match as he expertly lifted the ball over the advancing Rovers keeper immediately after Celtic conceeded the goal. Celtic held out to seal a comfortable victor and claim their place in the next round of the competition.
