Clonmel Celtic advanced to the second round of the Munster Junior Cup with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Wilderness Rovers. Rovers deserve a lot of credit for their efforts and were right in this game up until the hour mark when Celtic eventually pulled away with 4 late goals. Celtic were 1-0 up at the break following James Power's tap in on 20 minutes following a goalmouth scramble. Wilderness battled away gamely in the second half but on 55 minutes James Power effectively killed off the game with a fine finish to leave the score 2-0 to Celtic. Rovers tried to take the game to Celtic but they never really troubled the Celtic defence which looked comfortable throughout. The gulf in class and fitness levels really showed in the last fifteen minutes as Celtic hit a purple patch. On 75 minutes Wayne Murray was on hand to stab home from close range following good work from Darren Burns and 5 minutes later Paddy O'Donnell eventually got on the score sheet when he finished off a Eddie Doyle through ball. It got worse for Rovers as Celtic added two more in the last five minutes. First of all Wayne Murray was on the end of a Eddie Doyle cross to head his second and in the last minute up popped Graham Doyle to round the keeper and slot home to make the final score 6-0 to Celtic. Celtic will now play Vee Rovers in the second, with the winners of that game due to play Clonmel Town.
